Galway singer launches CD to aid MD research
A Galway singer has recorded a CD to help raise funds for muscular dystrophy research.

Rose Foley of Galway sings five songs on “You Can’t Stand Up Alone,” a CD that was arranged and produced by Jimmy Fitzgerald, also of Galway.

Foley, who has fascioscapulohumeral, or FSH, muscular dystrophy, wanted to raise funds for MD research in a creative way.

“The CD helped me accomplish that goal and I’m very proud of it,” she said.

As a highlight to help launch the CD, a Dublin filmmaker has made an animated video of one of the songs, “Bad Haircut Blues,” which Foley wrote as a light-hearted lament after a particularly bad trip to the hair salon. The two-minute video by Camel Productions’ father-son team of John and JohnLuka Doherty uses clever animation to illustrate the song. Peter Hamilton, also of Dublin, joined the team as musical accompanist and arranger.

“I’m honoured to have a video made of ‘Bad Hair Cut Blues’ – and I absolutely love the animation,” said Foley. ”The video will help further the cause and I’m so grateful for their help.”

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the CD will benefit muscular dystrophy research through Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (www.mdi.ie) and the FSH Society (www.fshsociety.org).

Muscular dystrophy is a group of inherited diseases in which the muscles progressively weaken. According to the FSH Society, FSH is the most prevalent of the nine primary types of muscular dystrophy and affects about 870,000 adults and children worldwide.

Copies of the CD will be made available online at www.rosefoley.com. The CDs cost €10 plus €1.50 for postage and handling. They can also be purchased for US$10 plus US$1.50 for postage and handling.
